Construction Birthday Party

We had the pleasure of putting together a birthday party for a 6 year old who loves construction. From crafting toolboxes, squishing and digging in an oobleck construction site and hammering away, this party was a hands-on masterpiece of fun!

It was a beautiful mix of sensory and art

A crowd favorite was this oobleck table. Oobleck is one of the simplest sensory experiences that is loved by literally ALL ages. From babies to adults. It's simply a mix of cornstarch and water. I start with close to a 1:1 ratio. Then, after mixing, if it's too runny for my liking, I'll add more cornstarch. If it's a little thick, add more cornstarch. Kids typically like it a little bit runny. But no matter how it's made, it's always a show stopper and occupies kids for awhile. Add a few spoons, something to pour into and you're golden! Extras are fun but completely unnecessary.

Artists abound at parties

We prepare one or two art projects, as well, depending on your liking. At this party, they had toolboxes to paint and decorate and a "building" project with sticks and cardboard. While we have some ideas when creating the projects, nothing beyond that is directed. We offer a few tips and techniques but never have an expectation for how it will end up. No matter what, they always surprise and delight us with their creations. Sometimes they fail - and we try again - but most of the time, they make the most amazing pieces!

Every party gets either a canvas, cardboard birthday cake or a banner to have all guests work on together. This party chose a canvas and wanted simply the number 6 (how old he turned). As you can see from the photos below, it was a well loved canvas and will be a fun piece to add to his bedroom decor to remember this birthday.
